My Story

I was born in Bogotá, Colombia, and raised in the MidWest. I have always felt a deep sense of connection to nature and empathy for those around me. Yet, it took me a while to get where I am today. I worked in finance/business for nearly 20 years. However, I found myself taking sabbaticals every few years to volunteer abroad and fulfill a need to serve that wasn’t being met in my 9 to 5. I then transitioned into the non-profit sector but still wasn't satisfied with my impact there.

When my second daughter was born, I finally quit my business career and decided that I would take the time at home with her to figure out my next career path. As life would have it, at the same time I was experiencing pelvic floor pains and visited a massage therapist who happened to also be a Reiki practitioner. As a spiritual yet very practical person, I was open to receiving Reiki but skeptical of its benefits.  Long story short, Reiki healed me. Or better put, I healed myself with the help of Reiki. Not only did the pelvic floor pain diminish rapidly, but my energy, confidence, and spirituality heightened. I experienced an awakening that came with an inner joy and desire to live my most authentic life. Six months into receiving Reiki, at the end of one of my sessions, my teacher gently commented, “You know, you’re a healer yourself." To which I could only respond, “I am."

My Approach

I practice the traditional Japanese artform of Reiki and focus on evidence-based practices. When I first dedicated myself to becoming a Reiki practitioner, I took classes at Beaumont Health, which offers Reiki for oncology, hospice, and palliative care patients. I was shocked that the hospital was offering Reiki classes and eager to learn about their take on this intangible energy healing modality. Turns out it isn’t as “intangible” as I thought. I was ecstatic to learn of the progression in biofield medicine, where scientific research continually confirms that we have measurable electromagnetic fields surrounding our bodies, and that there is an intelligent force at work in the universe. The body has an innate ability to heal itself, and there are hundreds of placebo-controlled clinical trials that confirm its effectiveness.

These classes ignited my passion even more, but I wasn’t content. If I was going to live, breathe, and teach Reiki, I wanted to learn from a Reiki system as pure to its original teachings as possible. Reiki originated in Japan, but when it came to the West, some of the information was lost in translation or modified to better suit a Western mindset. Thus, I sought out a teacher in the Komyo ReikoDo system. Komyo ReikiDo is a Japanese-based lineage, traceable back to its founder, Mikao Usui, via teachers who all lived in Japan. I have completed both Shoden and Chuden Reiki levels. Komyo Reikido resonates with me deeply on both an intellectual and emotional level. My greatest desire is to share this gateway to health and harmony with anyone who is open.  (Please note: all Reiki lineages are valuable, and the Energy of the Universe is always the true teacher.)

What is Reiki?

Reiki is a holistic, traditional Japanese therapy that directs the universal life force energy. The word “Reiki” is derived from two Japanese words. “Rei” means something mysterious, sacred, or the energy of the heavens. “Ki” means the atmosphere or the energy of the earth. Together it symbolizes the universal energy that sustains all life. By channeling and balancing this universal life force energy, Reiki supports the body’s natural healing processes, promoting physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.

Our bodies have an innate ability to heal themselves and strive to find homeostasis. However, our thought patterns, stuck emotions, lifestyle, and other subconscious interference often get in the way. Sometimes we need a little help to restore ourselves to a state of balance. Reiki is a holistic health approach in which practitioners place their hands on and above a person to direct energy and help others connect with the deeper aspects of themselves that help to facilitate the healing process.

Komyo ReikiDo

Komyo ReikiDo is a Keep-It-Simple Reiki system based on the Japanese aesthetic of Less is More. Its practice requires trust, inner stillness, and surrendering. This Reiki system closely mirrors the original teachings of Reiki Ryoho.

The focus of Komyo ReikiDo is two-fold: Healing and Spiritual. The Komyo ReikiDo system of practice opens the way for us to go deeper, discovering our true spiritual nature. This traditional Japanese Reiki practice leads us to the highest, purest objective: to seek "Absolute Inner Peace" known as enlightenment, or Satori.

Komyo ReikiDo was founded by Inamoto Hyakuten, a Japanese monk of the Jodo Shu (Pure Land) sect. He was a student of Yamaguchi Chiyoko. After much research of the original teachings of Usui Sensei, Inamoto Sensei founded Komyo ReikiDo in 1998. He travels internationally to teach Reiki Ryoho.

Hyakuten Inamoto Sensei's lineage chart traces back to Usui Sensei as follows:

  • Mikao Usui (1865-1926)

  • Chujiro Hayashi (1879-1940)

  • Chiyoko Yamaguchi (1921-2003)

  • Hyakuten Inamoto *founder of Komyo ReikiDo (1940-present)
